Spotlight Athlete of the Month
This month’s Anchor Bay Spotlight Athlete of the Month comes from the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team who finished the year 18-2-4. Sophomore Ally Gaunt helped lead her team to a record setting year. The team set records for most wins in a season (18), shutouts (14), goals against average (0.54), and winning percentage (.794).
The team also won the program’s fourth district title, was one point away from a MAC Red league championship, and earned an elite eight regional final appearance. Ally played every minute in the team’s twenty-four games. She recorded seven out of ten penalty kick shootout saves in the Lake Orion tournament to help claim the invitational championship. In the district final against rival L’Anse Creuse North, Ally saved three out of five penalty kicks in the shootout to help earn the team earn the district championship.
Ally never conceded more than two goals in any game all year, and only three times out of twenty-four games did Ally allow two goals in a match. Ally was named 1st Team All County, All District, All Region, All State Honorable Mention, and was voted Tar of the Year by her teammates.
“Although Ally set individual records, she will be the first to say she couldn’t have done it without her teammates. As a sophomore she showed poise, confidence, and leadership. Having a keeper like Ally supporting a talented backline, gave us an opportunity to win every game we played,” remarked head coach Kevin Grammens. “She is a great role model for young players in the community and holds herself to a high standard in the classroom as well,” Grammens added.
