Anchor Bay Edges Utica in Opener

The Anchor Bay Girls Track team started the season strongly defeating Utica 87.5 to 49.5. The most exciting race of the day was the 4x100m relay, where freshman, Alana Lundgaurd held on to beat Mone Knowles. Mone is one of the best runners in the State, and was the 2017 Macomb County Champion in the 100m. Alana was given a nice lead from her teammates Elizabeth Palmer, Kaley Gustavus, and Jaime Cani, and held off Mone with a very gutsy performance. Mone would win the open 100m and 200m dashes yesterday.

Anchor Bay also had many other outstanding performances

  • Amelia Bont won Shot Put and Discus. Her discus toss of 105'2" ranks her 3rd all time at Anchor Bay. Sydney Kiehl placed second in discus and 3rd in shot. Alaina Kiehl placed 2nd in shot put with a big personal record of 30'8"

  • Freshman Cora Kolodge was the most dominate runner on the track yesterday, easily winning the 1600m, 3200m, and anchoring the 4x800m relay.  Sophia Brown, Bri French and Grace Ragsdale all ran great legs in the 4x800m relay as well. Grace also finished second in the 800m and 3200m runs.

  • Ava Gunst, Korrin Brady & Palmer swept pole pole vault

  • Savannah Pointe,  Amanda Usrey, and Ava Monden swept the 100 Hurdles. Angelica bailey and Savannah finished first and second in the 300m Hurdles

  • 28 of the Tars 87.5 points were contributions from freshmen, which was awesome to see. In addition to Cora, Alana, and Amanda, Delaney Streveler and Sophia Brown finished second and third in the 400m dash, Lara Ragsdale and Valerie Caldwell finished second and third in the High Jump, and Mary Scher placed third in the 200m dash.

The Tars (1-0) will have their first home meet on their NEW TRACK against the defending league champs PHN on Tuesday 4/16.
