ANCHOR BAY WINS THE MAC WHITE SWIM AND DIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS

A recap from Coach Ott:

ANCHOR BAY WINS THE MAC WHITE SWIM AND DIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Anchor Bay won the MAC White Division Championship on Saturday with a final score as follows: Anchor Bay- 273, Ford II- 261, LCN- 256, St. Clair- 219, Romeo- 127, L'anse Creuse- 108. After butterfly (event #6), which is the halfway point of the meet, the TARS were down by 16 points to Ford II. After event #7 (500 Free), though, the TARS took the lead by 2 points and never relinquished the lead again. I was so proud how the boys performed as we had an 80% best swims/scores across the board. It is hard to believe that in the course of one year we moved from finishing 5th to 1st in the MAC White.

What is most impressive and most important is that this win came from being a well-rounded team. Typically teams do not win this meet with only placing 1st in only one event, as the TARS placed first in the 1 Meter Dive. Ford II captured 5 first place finishes and LCN captured 5 first place finishes which showcased their team speed. When planning the lineup for this meet I knew we could not challenge at the top so I looked at our opportunities where our opponents would run out of depth as well as opportunities where teams would be contesting points with each other. We found several opportunities and outscored all opponents in the 1 Meter Dive, 100 Free and 100 Back. We also had some great swims on Friday getting four swimmers to return to swim on Saturday for the finals in every event except for two. Our story this year has been our team depth and being a true swim AND dive team.

Our dive program packs a very big punch scoring 35 points this meet. While I continue to see other teams dive program numbers dwindle ours continues to build and improve each year!! Congratulations to Adam Schmehl, Edin DeHooghe and Mark Mancuso for making it to the Regional Meet!!! Coach Shawn Daly (ABHS alum) keep up the passion with your program!! I have seen you grow as a coach and your enthusiasm for diving has not diminished one bit.
