On Friday, March 1st, the atmosphere was electric at L'Anse Creuse North High School as the Tars won their first District title since 1989 ending the 30-year drought for the program. On Monday of last week, to kick off the 2019 MHSAA District Tournament the Tars defeated the L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders on their home court in a nail-biting game that eventually went into overtime with a final score of 40-39. On Wednesday's MHSAA District Semifinal game the Tars defeat the Port Huron Big Reds where the Tars appeared dominant, not slipping the lead all game, final score 39-51. Friday's point leaders for the Tars included seniors Riley Vermander with 23 followed by Ethan Swarts with 18. The Tars had outscored Dakota 34-26 in the second half. Final score 54-49. Anchor Bay High School will host this year MHSAA Regional Boys Basketball Tournament. On Tuesday, March 5th the Tars will take on Chippewa Valley at 5:30 pm followed by Troy taking on Roseville at 7:30 pm. The winners of Tuesday's games will face off on Thursday at Anchor Bay for the regional final, tip off 7 pm, $6 admission for all spectators, no passes will be accepted.
