Anchor Bay finished second at the state Division 1 bowling finals in Allen Park on Friday.
"These girls bowled fantastic," Anchor Bay coach Buddy VanWieringen said after the Tars lost to Jenison in the championship match. "This is the best team I've had in quite a few years. I've had a lot of great coaching help this year. It's been a fun season.
"It's tough to lose it, but that's the game. Somebody's got to win and somebody's got to lose. It's fun to win but you've got to learn how to lose also."
Jenison had a total pinfall of 1,307 and Anchor Bay had 1,200.
Anchor Bay was the second seed after qualifying. The Tars trailed Jenison by 38 pins after the two Baker games, then made a charge early in the team game.
Anchor Bay marked in 16 of its first 20 frames, but then struggled.  Meanwhile, the Wildcats at one point had 15 straight marks to pull away.
It was the first state title for Jenison.
Anchor Bay won championships in 2007 and 2011.
